This dish is incredibly easy to prepare, requiring only a handful of pantry staples. It’s perfect for those who love garlicky flavors but want something beyond the ordinary. Garlic Rice pairs well with a variety of dishes, from sizzling chicken fajitas to spicy stir-fries. It’s an excellent addition to any meal, whether you’re hosting a dinner party or preparing a comforting weeknight dinner. Let’s dive into this quick and flavorful recipe that will soon become a staple in your kitchen!

Ingredients

- 5-6 garlic cloves (thinly sliced)

- 3-4 green chilies

- 1 tablespoon salt

- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

- 1 teaspoon coriander powder

- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder

- 2 cinnamon sticks

- 1/2 cup oil

- 1/4 cup + 3-1/2 cups water

- 2 cups soaked rice

Directions

1. Heat ½ cup oil in a pot over medium heat. Add sliced garlic and cinnamon sticks. Fry until the garlic turns golden brown, releasing a rich aroma.

2. Add green chilies, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric, and salt. Stir and sauté for a few seconds to enhance their flavors.

3. Pour in ¼ cup of water and let the spices cook for about 1–2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

4. Add the soaked rice and mix gently, coating the grains with the aromatic garlic-spice blend. Sauté for 2–3 minutes.

5. Pour in 3½ cups of water and bring to a rolling boil. Reduce heat to medium and let it cook until the water starts to reduce.

6. Cover the pot with a tight lid, sealing the steam inside. Cook on low heat for 10–15 minutes to allow the rice to absorb all the flavors.

7. Fluff up the rice gently and serve warm with your favorite main course.

How to Prepare

- Start by slicing the garlic thinly to ensure even frying. Be careful not to burn it, as burnt garlic can taste bitter.

- Use long-grain rice like Basmati for the best texture and fragrance. Soaking it for 30 minutes helps achieve fluffy rice.

- Adjust the spice level by adding or reducing green chilies.

- To enhance the flavor further, you can add a small cube of butter or a splash of lemon juice before serving.
